Patronage is a donation to the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Amis d’Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re, a non-profit association. It can be a financial donation, a donation in kind (technical or material resources, gifts for the competition) or a donation of skills (mobilising the know-how of your employees).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Amp\u00e8re Museum is located in the childhood home of Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re. This 17th-century building, part-farmhouse and part-bourgeois house, has witnessed both the history of the French Revolution and the intellectual development of Amp\u00e8re’s genius.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Amp\u00e8re’s house is labeled as a “Maisons des Illustres” by the french Ministry of Culture.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

History is on our side! After the development of natural history museums created to preserve collections and display the wonders of nature, the technological advances of the early 20th century saw the emergence of a new way to communicate science through interactive experiences. Thus, in 1931, the first science and technology museum in France was born, the Amp\u00e8re Museum, dedicated to the history of electricity which has been developed since its inception by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Amis d’Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re (Society of Friends of Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Physical Society has awarded the Amp\u00e8re Museum with the label of a European site for European physics.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Preserve extraordinary collections<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For almost a hundred years, the Amp\u00e8re Museum has been enriched by donations from collectors, industrialists and private individuals. The museum’s collections include the only original portrait of Amp\u00e8re, the only experiment carried out by Albert Einstein, numerous original documents and letters written by Amp\u00e8re, as well as an impressive collection of instruments, machines and objects illustrating the history of electricity. The Amp\u00e8re Museum also houses the earliest interactive experiences in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most important international professional association in the field of electricity and electronics, IEEE, <\/em>
has awarded the Amp\u00e8re Museum with the label of historic milestone in electricity.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

An extraordinary human adventure<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 1930, the volunteers of the Society of Friends of Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re have been working to preserve Amp\u00e8re’s house, develop the Amp\u00e8re Museum, and protect and preserve its collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Society of Friends of Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re has been recognized as a public utility association since 1936.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A mission for the dissemination of knowledge among the youngest.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, the Mus\u00e9e Amp\u00e8re welcomes more than a thousand students and their teachers to take part in interactive experimental workshops. These workshops are run by volunteers and PhD students from Lyon’s university science centres. They help to develop critical thinking and interest in science and technology, and may even lead to a career!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Society of Friends of Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re received the medal from the Academy of Lyon.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Un devoir de m\u00e9moire<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to preserving Amp\u00e8re’s house and developing his museum, the Society of Friends of Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re has the mission of preserving the memory of this universal scholar. Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re’s contribution to the development of electromagnetism not only earned him the title “The Newton of Electricity” by James Clark Maxwell but also made Amp\u00e8re the only scientist for whom Albert Einstein turned away from his own theories to conduct experiments in order to verify Amp\u00e8re’s theories ! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Amis d’Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re (Society of Friends of Andr\u00e9-Marie Amp\u00e8re) is organising a series of events to commemorate the scientific contributions of the great Lyon-based and universal scientist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
